The University of Georgia Choirs provide students with a rich variety of performance opportunities in one of seven outstanding ensembles, regardless of major. The Hugh Hodgson School of Music invites all to experience the excitement and rewards of making music, finding fellowship, and joining a longstanding tradition of musical excellence. Ensembles which do not require a placement hearing are open to all interested singers - simply register. Voice part placement will take place on the first day of classes. Sign up for a placement hearing - Fall 2024 Fall 2024: August 12-14, 2024, Choral Office, Hugh Hodgson School of Music Returning Hodgson Singers members DO NOT need to re-audition for Fall 2024 All music majors and minors who plan to use a choir to fulfill their large ensemble requirement must do a choir placement hearing and enroll in their assigned choral ensemble as determined by the choral faculty. Singers interested in being considered for Hodgson Singers or Repertory Singers should sign up for a placement hearing. There is nothing to prepare for a choral hearing. Students will be asked to vocalize (in order to demonstrate voice range, size, and character) and show their level of music literacy, which includes singing a short sight-reading excerpt. Choral Project will not meet in Fall 2024, but auditions for Spring 2025 will open to graduate students and undergraduates in their second year or higher, and are usually held virtually at the end of the previous semester. Students who do not need a choir to fulfill their large ensemble requirement and non-majors do not need to do a placement hearing to join Women's Glee Club, Men's Glee Club, University Chorus, or African American Choral Ensemble. Just register for the course and come to the first day of class. Questions? Contact Dr. Bara (dbara@uga.edu) or Professor Shafer (daniel.shafer@uga.edu) Click here for Ensemble Information
