Join a Choir

The University of Georgia Choirs provide students from throughout the university with a rich variety of performance opportunities in one of seven outstanding choral ensembles. Each of these ensembles is home to a mixture of music majors and non-music-majors.

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music invites all to experience the excitement, rewards, and community of ensemble music-making by joining a longstanding tradition of musical excellence.

Most choral ensembles (Treble Choir, Glee Club, Univesity Chorus, African American Choral Ensemble) do not require a placement hearing prior to registration. Voice part placement for these choirs will take place on the first day of classes.  Students must audition or gain permission of instructor to enroll in Hodgson Singers, Choral Project, or Repertory Singers.

Fall 2025:

Choral Office, Hugh Hodgson School of Music

  • All MUSIC MAJORS and MUSIC MINORS who enroll in choir to fulfill their large ensemble requirement MUST do a choir placement hearing/audition and enroll in their assigned choral ensemble as determined by the choral faculty. Fall 2025 choral hearings will take place during the week of August 11-15, 2025.

  • NON-MUSIC MAJORS and students who do not need a choir to fulfill their large ensemble requirement do not need to do a placement hearing to join the Georgia Treble Choir, UGA Glee Club, University Chorus, or African American Choral Ensemble. Simply register for the course and come to the first day of class.

  • ALL SINGERS interested in being considered for Hodgson Singers and Repertory Singers should plan to do a placement hearing/audition.  Contact Dr. Bara by e-mail with questions (dbara@uga.edu).

  • Choral hearings/auditions for Repertory Singers/Hodgson Singers do not require preparation. Students will be asked to vocalize (in order to demonstrate voice range, size, and character) and show their level of musicianship, which will include sight-singing.

  • Choral Project auditions for Spring 2026 will be announced during the Fall 2025 semester. It is open to all graduate students and undergraduates in their second year or higher. Follow this link to learn more about our upcoming project and the audition process.
